Medical Mediation

Medical litigation has placed an economic burden on society. Medical malpractice rates in many areas continue to escalate, it is clear some action must be taken soon. Compared to other methods, litigation can have alternative purposes, is less effective, requires lengthy time periods, employs discredited psychological assumptions, and is costly. With litigation there are also threats of public embarrassment, professional ostracism, and financial ruin. If we desire lower medical costs in general and for more doctors to be able to practice via lower malpractice rates, one avenue that should be employed as a solution is medical mediation. Medical mediation allows for the resolution of disputes in a more timely and economical manner than the system currently provides. The process helps both parties be heard and arrive at an amicable solution. Just as all federal discrimination cases must go through mediation, we believe medical mediation would be as successful if not more.
